Laser FAQ's

Listed below are answers to some of the questions we’re asked most often.  Information regarding specific procedures is also available by clicking on the tabs for each type of laser treatment.

Are the treatments covered by OHIP?
Treatments and procedures deemed to be of cosmetic in nature are not covered by OHIP.  Your laser treatments may be tax deductible as they are performed in a medically supervised facility. Speak to your accountant to see whether in your case, the treatments may be classified as a medical expense and be tax deductible.

How much do treatments cost?
When you call Personal Focus, you will be given ‘ball park’ figures on the cost of the treatments. Dr. Duke sets the final price in the consultation depending on the condition of your skin and your desired treatment.

Why is there such a variance in prices for laser treatments at the different businesses?
When determining on purchasing laser treatments, price is an important factor but should not be the only factor you consider. We encourage all of our clients to do research and find out what type of laser will be used as there are many different lasers on the market that promise great results but don’t always meet the goals of the patient.  At Personal Focus, we are committed to providing top quality service to all of our clients with the safest and most effective technology possible. We are committed to ensuring all treatments and consultations are done by health care professionals. It is important to note that the lowest price doesn’t always equate to the best service and/or results, especially when considering laser treatments.  Most importantly, we encourage our clients to find the best fit for themselves—where they feel they will best taken care of.

What laser do you use?
We use the Cutera laser for hair/vein removal, photofacial treatments and skin tightening.

How do I know what is a good laser?
We encourage our clients to research fully on the internet about laser technology so they have an understanding on the appropriate laser for different treatments.  Check the power capabilities, skin type clearance (not all lasers can be used on all skin types), the range of treatments, and the safety of the lasers.

Why would I come to you for laser treatment when the salon has laser treatments as well?
Currently lasers are not regulated by the Canadian government. This means that anyone can purchase and operate a laser without any formal training or knowledge. Lasers are an incredible technology for achieving skin care goals, but they can also be very harmful if used incorrectly. At Personal Focus, having a physician doing the consults helps to ensure that only suitable treatments for the individual are performed. We do decline treatments on individuals who we feel are not suited for laser treatments.

Who does the treatments?
At Personal Focus, all treatments are done by licensed health care professionals, either a doctor or a nurse.

Do the treatments really work?
YES! It’s quite exciting to see the results of the laser treatments. Dr. Duke will give you her expectations on what changes you will see in the appearance of your skin. If she feels the treatment will not help you achieve your goals, she will decline to do the treatments.

Why do I need multiple treatments?
Our skin is the largest organ and regenerates itself continuously. Our treatments are aimed at helping to exfoliate and rebuild healthy skin cells.  This takes time and laser treatments done at spaced intervals build on the natural cellular renewal pattern of our skin.

How do I maintain my results? Will I need treatments again?
You will be counselled on how to maintain your optimal results. Depending on your health and lifestyle, you may need treatments again. Dr. Duke will counsel you on this as well.
